Ferries rest at the dockyard on the Golden Horn, where Istanbul's historic city liners are moored and maintained. Galata Tower rises above the Pera neighbourhood on the left, while the domes and minarets of the Historical Peninsula fade into the summer haze across the water. A two-masted schooner sits in the foreground, a quiet moment in one of the world's busiest harbours.
This painting began as a quick sketch from a photo I took on the Golden Horn last summer and grew into a larger work. It is always fascinating how a fleeting moment can evolve into something more enduring on paper.
